International. The pandemic has highlighted the important role of biocides / disinfectants in the day to day and especially in the professional field. But not all products have a proven efficacy against different pathogens, so it is very important a good regulation / legislation of biocides to catalog each product according to its application, its efficacy and its use.

In Spain, the authorizations on the different biocides by the Ministry or the Spanish Medicines Agency have been carried out for many years, differentiating us from other countries and being pioneers in a good control of the biocidal products put on the market.

They are currently engaged in a process of changing national legislation to unification in a Biocidal Product Regulation (BPR) directive (Regulation (EU) 528/2012) which aims to harmonise the market at European Union level, simplify both the approval of active substances in biocidal products and the authorisation of products in Europe, ensuring a high level of protection for people and the environment.

In order to be able to market a biocidal product according to the BPR regulation, it must have been previously authorised in each of the Member States in which it is to be placed on the market (national/local authorisation) or the new Regulation also offers the possibility of benefiting from a new type of authorisation for the whole of the Union (Authorisation from the European Union).

During the pandemic, lists of products with activity against SARS-COVID 19 type viruses have been published, which have served as a reference for the disinfection of facilities in the different sectors, although these lists include a part of the registered products.

An authorised biocidal product is a product that meets minimum requirements under the applicable regulations, that has demonstrated its efficacy through EN tests carried out in accredited laboratories and that has been evaluated by the competent authorities for that purpose.

By registering a biocidal product, it is being shown that it is active against the organisms that are intended to be eliminated under established conditions, so that the customer is provided with a complete and reliable product for the disinfection of their facilities, not only endorsed by the manufacturer but certified by the competent authorities.

Diversey has a wide range of Biocides registered locally in Spain or with authorization from the European Union, both for the Institutional market and the Industrial Food & Beverage market.
