Latin America. In 2022 Whirlpool managed to reduce water consumption by 8% compared to 2019 and has achieved a 34% reduction in water consumption worldwide in the last five years.

Whirlpool, maintains a strong commitment to the care of the environment, among its objectives are sustainability actions in the region to face the challenges of water scarcity. Here we share some of the company's actions for the care of the vital liquid.

Marc Bitzer, CEO and President of Whirlpool, signed a pledge to join the CEO Water Mandate of the United Nations Global Compact, a platform for business leaders to promote water management.

In this agreement, the member companies commit to carry out actions that conserve water in six key areas, including operations and products, supply chain, watershed management, collective action, public policy, commitment to the community and transparency. This agreement is expected to continue implementing changes to Whirlpool's operations around the world to conserve water for current and future generations.

Among other strategies that Whirlpool continues to implement are:
During 2022 in the five plants of Whirlpool LAR Norte a cost analysis matrix related to the use of water in manufacturing processes was implemented, this tool helped prioritize projects such as the installation of pressurizers in one of the plants of Nuevo León, the site managed to convert a cooling water discharge into a closed circuit, managing to save around 448,000 liters of water per year. This and other actions allowed it to reduce water consumption by 10% compared to 2022. By 2023, Whirlpool LAR Norte's goal is to save 531 million liters of water.

In the last five years, a 34% reduction in water consumption has been achieved worldwide.

In 2021, plants in the Latin America (LAR) region recirculated 98% of their water intake and captured rainwater to reduce their water intake requirements. At the Joinville plant in Brazil, rainwater accounts for 8% of total water abstraction.

In the five manufacturing plants, water discharge analyses are performed in order to comply with the discharge parameters and sanitary standards of each state. In addition, three of the five plants have wastewater treatment centers, while the remaining two water is sent to the wastewater treatment center of each industrial park.
