Colombia. The Pereira Cleaning Company and Atesa de Occidente explained to the community the operation of the La Glorita landfill in addition to the processes that have been carried out in this space.

With the presentation of a model of the landfill, the attendees were explained the processes advanced in the place, such as its construction and operation, and there was also an itinerant museum where the step by step is shown, which goes from planning, according to regulations, the closure and closing of the vessels, until it becomes an environmental park.

In this exercise it was explained playfully what the vessel where the waste is deposited consists of, an excavated area made up of geomorphological and geological designs and studies, which is then waterproofed from the base to the last wall or slope.

"This awareness day was the first step, but on August 15 we will have a forum with experts aimed at the general public, teaching them how the landfill should operate, what actions we take to mitigate the negative impact it can have, and the advantages and disadvantages of having a landfill located in our municipality of Pereira, " explained the manager of the Pereira Cleaning Company, Johan Osorio Cano.

The process continues with the creation of filters from the base of the final disposal and drilled, to collect leachate and possible biogas generated by the degradation of solid waste. Additionally, a conformation is made with gabion stone and a construction of filters or linear chimneys, which grow as the arrangement or filling of the vessel is made.

During the day there was also awareness to the community, a tour of collection of useless, cleaning on the road and activities for children with the puppets of the Vigimonstruos and Separito, to teach them to take care of the environment.
