International. After the pandemic, a fundamental habit remains: proper hand washing, which includes thorough drying. People are washing their hands at an unprecedented rate, subjecting the bathroom experience to more intense scrutiny than ever before.
"Handwashing has always been important, as evidenced by the CDC's motto, 'Clean hands save lives,'" said William Gagnon, chief operating officer of Excel Dryer. "The pandemic reminded the world of the importance of proper hand hygiene. A lot of attention is also paid to bathrooms and how a person's experience in them can directly affect a company's reputation and bottom line."
That's why Excel Dryer, Inc., a touchless hand drying technology company, joined forces with MetrixLab, a renowned global market research firm, to conduct a comprehensive global survey, called "Post-Pandemic Perceptions of Commercial Restrooms."
The goal was to find out what architects, designers, business owners, facility managers, and consumers have to say about commercial restrooms in the post-pandemic world. The survey involved more than 4,000 people in the United States, Europe and Asia, with the goal of capturing changes in perception and preferences regarding commercial restrooms.
Regardless of who you are or where you live, the results were clear:
* The top concern, across demographics and locations, is cleanliness and hygiene.
* 100% agree: a dirty bathroom gives a bad image to the establishment. In fact, 80% of respondents said they wouldn't, or probably wouldn't go back, to a restaurant with a dirty bathroom. The main contributing factor to a dirty bathroom is paper towels on the floor or overflowing trash cans.
* Consumers agree that a dirty restroom reflects poor management, while architects, restaurant owners and facility managers around the world consider the cleanliness of a commercial restroom to reflect the degree of value a business places on its customers and employees.
"Excel Dryer's full line of touchless, high-efficiency hand dryers addresses precisely the problem this survey highlights: when people see paper towels on the bathroom floor, it looks and feels dirty. Our hand dryers are not only more hygienic, but they also help facilities save time, money and protect the environment," said Gagnon. "If you still use paper towels, this survey shows it's time to change."
