jabones artesanales

Colombia. Daniela Carvajal is a Colombian who in 2019 created the company Calo Jabones, a venture that manufactures biodegradable soaps for cleaning from used cooking oil.

This venture was born from the desire to help the planet by generating small changes from everyday life, since, by converting this waste into soaps, they not only contributed to the reduction of water pollution, but they were also creating products for daily use and friendly to the skin.

"In 2016, once the project was finished and without being sure what my next step was going to be, I started making soaps at home, collecting the oil from my family and friends and selling them to acquaintances. I noticed the positive impact that soaps and the process had on many people, so I decided to continue on that path and over time the project grew and evolved, integrating my partner, Juan Sebastián" In 2016, once the project was finished and without being clear about what my next step was going to be, I started making soaps at home. collecting the oil from my family and friends and selling it to acquaintances. "In 2019 we incorporated the company, and from that moment everything began to grow very fast; We went from manufacturing at home to manufacturing in a workshop, where today we continue the production of our soaps; We started giving talks and workshops, where we shared our knowledge and concerns about the impact this waste has on the environment. Every day we find more people interested in being part of our community, helping us to collect ACU and share our message and thus help together to save our planet, one soap at a time," explained Juan Sebastián Sánchez, co-creator of the brand.

The process
This process consists of four stages: collection, management, social impact and education. Collection: they have different collection points, where anyone can approach and dispose of this waste responsibly.

After collecting the oil, it is taken to their plant, where they select, filter and process it, transforming an extremely polluting residue into environmentally friendly soaps. Finally, they share their knowledge through workshops and talks to people, schools, companies and other organizations generating awareness around this problem.

The Ministry of Agriculture shows that in Colombia approximately 1,600 million tons of oil are consumed per year and it is estimated that 35% of this waste is discarded by the drainage of Colombian households; This means that there are about 60,000,000,000 liters of water that are affected.
