Mexico. During the forum "Reflections on the ABC of Mexico", held at El Colegio Nacional in the framework of World Environment Day, the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, Alicia Bárcena, presented the ABC Agenda (Water, Biodiversity and Climate Change), a roadmap that, in addition to positioning Mexico as a regional leader in environmental matters, It opens up new opportunities and responsibilities for the cleaning and environmental services sector.

One of the central axes of this agenda is the National Beach Cleanup Campaign, which seeks to declare the country's 17 coastal states free of plastics and waste.

"The beaches have been appropriated by the private and tourist sector," warned Bárcena, who stressed that these areas must be accessible to the entire population. In this context, companies dedicated to professional cleaning will have a strategic role in the work of sanitation, collection, separation and responsible disposal of waste.

The plan also calls for the restoration of 30 highly polluted sites, the reforestation of 100,000 hectares of forests and 18,000 hectares of mangroves, as well as the remediation of bodies of water. These objectives represent a growing demand for technical services for environmental cleaning, hazardous waste control, ecological maintenance of public spaces and operational management with sustainable criteria.

"The key word of this administration is restoration," Bárcena said, alluding to the numerous environmental liabilities facing the country. In this sense, public and specialised cleaning companies are emerging as key executors of territorial sanitation and decontamination plans, both in urban and rural environments.

For his part, José Sarukhán, biologist and promoter of the ABC Agenda, stated that: "This document is a guide for informed and collective social action, which seeks to integrate scientific knowledge with citizen participation to face environmental challenges."

Ecologist Julia Carabias complemented this approach by highlighting the active role of the community: "Society must take ownership of this agenda, because only with social commitment can the conservation of our forests, water and biodiversity be guaranteed."

With goals such as protecting 30% of marine and terrestrial territory and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35%, the ABC Agenda calls on all productive sectors, including institutional and industrial cleaning services, to incorporate cleaner, more sustainable and collaborative practices.

Bárcena was emphatic in recalling that environmental policy does not fall exclusively on Semarnat: "The environmental sector not only corresponds to Semarnat, but also to Conagua, Conabio, Profepa, INECC and Conafor", so public-private collaboration will be essential for environmental commitments to be translated into effective actions.
