International. On November 3, representatives of the professional cleaning sector will meet with the different parliamentary groups in the Congress of Deputies to express their concern about the critical situation that the guild is going through and demand urgent measures to guarantee its sustainability.
The meeting, organized by the National Federation of Associations of Cleaning Companies (AFELIN), is part of the commemorative events of its 25th anniversary, and seeks to open a direct dialogue with legislators on the impact that the current regulations have on essential services.
During the session, AFELIN will present to the deputies the main demands of the sector, including the revision of the Law on Deindexation and Public Sector Contracts, the adoption of measures that ensure the economic viability of companies in the face of rising labour costs, and attention to the high level of absenteeism that affects productivity.
"The professional cleaning sector sustains the economy, health and the operation of thousands of public and private spaces, but it remains invisible to the administrations," said Jesús Martín, president of AFELIN. "We want political representatives to hear our demands first-hand and commit to promoting concrete solutions," he added.
The meeting in Congress will be one of the central events of the anniversary of the employers' association, which celebrates 25 years of work as the unified voice of the cleaning business associations in Spain. During this time, AFELIN has promoted the social and institutional recognition of an essential activity for the economy, public health and the quality of life of citizens.
With this dialogue, the federation seeks to make visible the challenges faced by a sector that, despite its key role during the pandemic and in the provision of essential services, continues to operate under contractual and regulatory conditions that threaten its long-term sustainability.
